Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park sits on 11 acres along East Catawba Street. The park will include a canoe/kayak launch, amphitheater, picnic shelters, a playground, trails, restrooms and observation or fishing piers. Construction should be complete in April.

The ribbon was cut at the entrance to the park near the corner of Third and Church on Friday afternoon.
This weekend, the park will be filled with sounds of live music and outdoor celebrations. It celebrates Charlotte's best known artist which has several elements that appeal to the eyes.

KANNAPOLIS Almost everyone at Veterans Park on Monday faced the newly spruced-up gazebo in this shaded little grove between First Baptist Church and the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory.
There, Gov. Pat McCrory was addressing the crowd on Memorial Day, acknowledging the sacrifices of soldiers and Gold Star families.
Some sat in the front rows. That’s where David Francis of Concord was, his 6-year-old son, Xavier, shifting often on his lap. Francis listened as McCrory, American Legion and VFW commanders, chaplains and retired Air Force pilot Col. Claude “Buzz” Rich honored veterans such as his sister.

Rankin Lake Park has long played second or third fiddle to other, more popular recreational areas in Gastonia. But with a nearly year-long, $3.2 million renovation wrapping up, city leaders hope more residents will soon pay the park a visit and realize all it has to offer.
